The 68th Shiga Prefectural Student Science Award was awarded to the School Prize, two Excellence Prizes and two Honourable Mentions.

2025.1.8

At our school, students are required to submit their science research as homework during the summer holidays to the Shiga Prefecture Student Science Awards.

This time, the Excellence Award went to Kotoha Hosoi for her theme, ‘Thinking about ballet through physics – Part 2’, in which she enthusiastically researched the movement of rotation by creating many models and conducting a series of verification experiments.  The judges gave it a very high evaluation.  In addition, second-year student Ryoko Ueno’s ‘Which colour of light do cicada larvae prefer’ was also selected for an Excellence Award.  The process of using multiple LEDs to verify the results, and moving from hypothesis to conviction, was highly commended.

Furthermore, third-year student Mayuko Murata’s ‘Exploring the ecology of anisakis – Part 2’ and first-year student Otoha Ichiki’s ‘Iron wants to rust I’ were each selected for an Honourable Mention.  The school also won the School Prize.  We will continue to support our students’ challenges and develop global science leaders.
